Together We Shine

Inspire | Achieve | Succeed

Coal Mountain Families,

This week has brought warm weather and is giving us spring fever! We are looking forward to more growth and fun as we continue the school year. There is a lot going on so check out all the details below to be in the know.

In Partnership,

Kelly Fuchs
Principal
Coal Mountain Elementary

Attendance Matters

Did you know that regular school attendance is one of the biggest predictors of student success? When students show up each day, they stay on track with learning, build strong relationships, and develop habits that last a lifetime. Even just a few missed days can add up, making it harder to catch up academically and socially. Our Miners do best when they are at school all day, every day!

Let’s work together to help every student show up, grow, and thrive—because every day truly counts!

As a reminder, the latest you can check your child out from the front office is 1:45pm. If you come later than that you will be asked to meet your child through their regular afternoon transportation method.

Additional information regarding Forsyth County Schools’ Attendance Policy, including excused absence information, can be found here.

Lunchroom Visitors

  1. Due to the safety requirements of our school and FCS, parents and legal guardians may only eat with their own children.
  2. Children must be on their lunch schedule and cannot come early or stay late with a parent or guardian who comes to have lunch at school.
  3. All students and visitors are expected to follow the Miner Mindset and all safety expectations to ensure a positive and safe environment for all of our Miners.

Birthday Celebrations

Miner's Rock

Have you seen the big, painted boulder near the entrance of our school? We have named it Miner’s Rock because our “Miners” Rock!!!

We are inviting YOU to join in our school spirit fun by painting your own messages of positivity on Miner’s Rock. You can wish students Happy Birthday or Good Luck. Share a congratulatory message or announcement or anything positive you wish to share with our Coal Mountain students and community!

Painters need to complete this Google form application to request the date they would like to paint their message on Miner’s Rock. Dates will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Families must receive a confirmation email and make the $20.00 payment using the School Pay link in the confirmation email prior to painting. Please plan to allow 1-2 business days for confirmation. Your contribution will go to the many initiatives at Coal Mountain Elementary, including instructional materials for teachers, as well as experiences and positive rewards for our students.

Painting can begin any time after 4:00pm. Miner’s Rock will remain painted until 4:00pm the following day or until the next scheduled painting. Painted messages are only guaranteed to be displayed until 4:00pm. Signing up for more than one consecutive day will not be approved. Our hope is to give everyone an opportunity to paint Miner’s Rock and celebrate their Miner.

School secretaries will use Sign Up Genius internally to reserve dates. All contributions are non-refundable and tax deductible. Dates may only be rescheduled if painting could not happen due to inclement weather or due to family/medical emergency. Painters are responsible for remembering their scheduled date. Painters must provide their own design, paint, supplies, time, and/or money to paint Miners Rock. Painters paint at their own risk. The school and school district are not liable for any mishaps or accidents that may happen during painting.

If you have any questions, please email CMES secretary, Stephanie Moulton at cme-bookkeeping@forsyth.k12.ga.us.

Birthday Ice Cream

Dear Miner Families,

We are excited to continue our birthday celebration option for our students!

If your child is having a birthday within a month, you can purchase ice cream for your child's entire class for $40 to celebrate at school!

We accept payment via SchoolPay.com. You will submit payment and choose the date you would like your child's class to enjoy their ice cream through the SchoolPay platform.

After you have paid on SchoolPay, the bookkeeper will be notified of your purchase and will communicate with your child's homeroom teacher and our cafeteria manager.

Please make sure to make the payment no later than a week before your child's birthday so that our staff can be prepared to distribute the ice cream to your child's class to celebrate!

Please note: Specialized instruction classes are smaller and will be discounted accordingly.

Partners in Education

Dear Potential Partner in Education,

At Coal Mountain Elementary, we are committed to ensuring a strong foundation of excellence for all students. Families, businesses, and the community at large contribute greatly to the success of Coal Mountain. We are currently inviting our business partners to continue supporting our school as we move through the Partners in Education Program. Coal Mountain Partners in Education have opportunities to support the school through monetary donations, as well as product donations and services. The four key areas emphasized and supported by Forsyth County Schools include: Improving Academic Performance, Increasing Educator Support and Morale, Enriching Life Experiences of Students, and Growing Career Opportunities.

You can support our school through participation in the following options and ways that you can support our school through our Partners in Education Program for the upcoming year. Your support is vital and a key component of our school’s success in serving our community and supporting our most important resource – our students.

Below are just a few of the ways that Partners in Education can get involved at CMES:

  • Sponsor academic extra curricular events (Spelling Bee, Science Night, Oratorical Contest, etc.)
  • Support the Media Center with donations to purchase books, furniture, etc.
  • Support staff recognition events (Teacher of the Year, Dazzling Diamond, faculty meetings, etc.)
  • Sponsor a student recognition program like Principal Pals or Gems, chorus, robotics and others.
  • Provide monetary donations for new student or teacher technology, pathways materials, high interest books, and other instructional resources for students.
  • Sponsor a school-wide event (House Rallies, Student Recognition, Teacher Appreciation Week, Discovering Diamonds, Field Day, Holiday Night, etc.)
  • Provide scholarships for students in need for field trips, lunch assistance, activities, or events.

If you have any additional questions, please contact our Partners in Education coordinator, Haley Sterritt. We are excited about the opportunity to partner with you!
